Crop Information

Chickpea ( Cicer arietinum )
Climatic requirement: Gram is generally grown under rain fed conditions but gives good results in irrigated conditions as well. It is best suited to areas having moderate rainfall of 60-90 cm per annum.
Season: For Gram winter season is the main growing season in India but severe cold and frost are injurious to it. Second fortnight of October is the optimum time for sowing chick pea for northern India. For peninsular India, first fort night of October is the best time for chickpea sowing. Delay beyond this period results in conspicuous reduction in yield.
Soil: Gram is grown on a wide range of soils of India. The best type of soil is well drained and not too heavy. The soil chosen for its cultivation should be free from excessive soluble salts and near neutral pH. It is not suited to soils having a pH higher than 8.5.
Method of sowing: The crop may be sown by seed drill or local plough at a row spacing of 30-40 cm. The seed should be placed 8-10 cm deep.
Varieties: BG-2085, BG1103, BG-362, BGD-72, C-235, Chaffa, CSG-9807, FG-711, GNG-663, GPF-2, H-00-108, ICC17109, IG-72933, IPC2009-198, IPC-92-1, IPCK-00-112, IPKC00112, JG-11, JG-14, JG-315, KGD-1168, L-550, PDG-84-16, PG95333, PG-96006, Pusa-1053, Pusa-1088, Pusa-1108, Pusa-256, Pusa-372, Pusa-5023, Radhey, RSG-143-1, Saki-9516.
